So…I went out today checking out garage sales in a neighbouring town. The weather was perfect, not a single cloud in the sky and home owners having garage sales had the confidence of a sailor!

There were plenty of good stuff carefully displayed all over the well manicured lawns. I parked my car and walked to a home which had very attractive display of goods. I browsed through the items like I was surfing the internet, jumping from one pile to the next. Immediately my eyes landed on a row of shoes! Yes, shoes, they all looked new and two of them still had store tags. I zoomed in on one brown pair of sandals, one of the two pairs with tags still on. I fell in love with it instantly. I asked the young girl who was sitting behind a table how much the pair of sandals was going for. She yelled out to her mother, “mom, the lady is asking for a price here”. The mother came out of the house smiling. She must have been baking cookies, I could smell it! “Which one honey” she asked. I immediately shoved the sandals towards her. She said “five bucks”. I could not believe my ears. I immediately fished out five dollars from my bag and gave it to her. I felt like giving her ten dollars because the sandals were beautiful and looked brand new! “Enjoy” she said smiling. “Thank you very much”, I said. “You are welcome honey”, she replied, putting the five dollar bill in a shopping bag under the table. I walked away quickly, very pleased with my purchase. Off I went to the next house, then to the next…

On my way back, I had a flashback of a garage sale I had about five years ago. I had lots of stuff because we were moving. There were several pairs of shoes to sell and they were all going for five dollars! Wait a minute, there was also a brown pair of sandals that I sold that day, for five dollars! It also had a tag on it. As I drove on, I kept thinking about the brown sandals I sold many years ago and how this one I had just purchased looked eerily similar. All of a sudden, my drive came to a stand still because of heavy traffic and I soon forgot all about shoes. When I arrived home hours later, I took my purchases from the car and brought them inside. I immediately remembered the sandals, yes the sandals. It will be nice having brown sandals, I mused! When I took it out of the bag, my heart skipped a beat! Was this the sandals I had sold five years ago! What? How? My heart was racing! How could I tell this was my pair of sandals? I quickly remembered that at the corner of the tag, I had written the #3 with a purple marker!! All the sandals were marked #3 because they were all going for the same price. It should still be there if this was my brown pair of sandals. I flipped the tag and there it was, #3! How is this even possible?

I sold this pair of sandals because they were a little tight and I never wore them. At the garage sale, it looked perfect, it looked a perfect fit, so I never even bothered to try it on. My brown pair of sandals found its way back home! Welcome home my beautiful sandals, welcome home! How wild is this!
